Sports – More Important Than Education?

A funny title for a tuition company, right? Here at Little Owl Tuition, we truly believe in the importance of children having a well rounded childhood. Part of that, we feel, lies heavily in sports.

What are the benefits of children’s involvement in sport?
  • Playing as part of a team can really improve the teamworking skills of children, which are really handy as part of school and later in life!
  • Playing sports can improve children’s social skills, mixing with others from all walks of life.
  • There is evidence that playing sport can help to reduce anxiety.
  • Reduce time spent doing sedentary activities.
  • Health benefits, including maintaining a healthy weight and reducing the risk of serious diseases later in life.
  • Children that play sports are often better problem solvers.
How much exercise should my child be doing?
  • The NHS recommends 60 minutes a day.
What can my child do if they don’t want to play team sports?
  • Walking to school or walking the dog
  • Playground activities, including jumping, running and catching
  • Physical education
  • Swimming
  • Skipping
  • Dancing
  • Skateboarding or rollerblading
  • Cycling
